About Garden of Hope Project

by Beverly Mills
The GARDEN OF HOPE PROJECT Began in September 2006 in Worcester South Africa with the Vision of providing vegetables for those on ARV (ANTI-RETROVIRO) therapy and are struggling to afford nutritious foods.
Two of the common side effects of the medication are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, which can deplete the body of important nutrients thus causing a vicious cycle of the body wanting to reject the medicine as well as the food. This works against the person’s body which needs both the medicine and the nutrients to survive.
Nineteen different vegetables between 2006 and 2007 and now we are planting a larger variety (between nineteen and twenty-five) for the 2007-2008 harvest.
Because of the increasing problem of child-headed homes and/or the elderly caring for the orphans or vulnerable children, due to the HIV-Aids pandemic, the vision for the Garden of Hope Project has grown to include a “food security” program for this sector of our local community. Our goal is to teach basic agricultural skills, personal nutrition and life skills to the orphan who are heading these homes.
To achieve these goals, we will need to execute the following:
Donations for miscellaneous needs, i.e., seeds, tools, training materials and maybe land are anticipated but not guaranteed.
Please search your hearts and consider partnering with us for this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of some of these children.
PLEASE EMAIL ALL INQUIRIES TO gardenofhope.project@gmail.com

Beverly, originally from Ohio but most recently from Rhode Island came to South Africa to serve in almost any capacity the Lord has needed. More specifically, she energetically serves the poor communities in Southern Africa and has created a feeding program geared towards HIV-aids sufferers, through her "Garden of Hope" program. Garden of Hope grows and distributes vegetables which provide HIV-aids sufferers much needed nutrition. This in turn helps them in becoming more healthy thus prolonging their lives.
